Our most recent visitors were my mom, and our college friends, Kurt, Erika, Nick and Shannon. And my sister is here this week! I'll post about our weekend in the Swiss Alps and my week with the girls soon. For this post, it's all about our time with mom/grandma.
She arrived last Monday night, with four days to spend with us before she had to fly to Manchester, England for work. I'm not sure who was more excited to have her here, Westin or me. It was seriously so great to have her here, and made me more eager to get home.
We spent the mornings being a little lazy, and letting grandma catch up on some much needed sleep (her trip out here took about 20 hours, with two long layovers). We would then head out in the afternoons to show her around.
Our first afternoon we meandered through Zug, showing grandma some of our favorite spots. In this picture Westin and grandma are practicing how to stand on one leg like the birds in the sanctuary next to them.
We tried going miniature golfing, but it was closed (again!) so Westin got another ride on Lightening McQueen at the toy store (it doesn't quite compare to golfing, but at least it takes his mind off the idea).
On Wednesday we went to Zurich
We went straight to the chocolate store and then walked the streets.
We took grandma in to our favorite 4-story toy store, where we raced cars, rode scooters and looked at just about every Lego set created.
After leaving the store, we headed to a park with a great view of the city and river, where grandma surprised Westin with Lightening McQueen and Francesco from Cars 2.
He was so excited and didn't let them out of his site all day.
On Thursday, we went to Luzern. While waiting for the train, Westin felt it would be a good time to teach grandma how to jump on one leg.
She's a fast learner!
Feeding frenzy
Showing off his pretzel
Almost a perfect picture if someone's eyes would have been open :p
When grandpa Steve was here a few weeks ago, he introduced the idea of pay phones to Westin, and now when W sees them he always wants to go in and pretend to make a call (which usually is to Uncle Chris).
So remember the Lightening McQueen and Francesco cars Westin got in Zurich? Well, we were sitting down enjoying a pastry when Westin decided to bring his cars out to roll on the table. Of course, Francesco rolled off the table... and wouldn't you know it, we had chosen the only table next to a drain. Being the fast race car that he is, Francesco sped right into the drain. Westin was devastated. I was a little mad. And grandma was the perfect grandma, and sweetly calmed Westin down. Poor Westin then looked out to the plaza and when I asked him what he was doing he said, "I'm just waiting for Francesco to come back."
Francesco never came back... (but, between you and me, I've already bought a replacement and am waiting for the right time to surprise him... maybe I'll set it next to his bed when he's sleeping or give it to him when we return to California).
Continuing our walk through old town
Haven't seen this before, right?
On Friday, the sun was finally out, so we went to the pool to take advantage of the season's last few days of warm weather. Westin showed off his killer jumps and some swimming to grandma.
The day was complete with ice cream
Saturday morning we walked grandma to the train station, where she headed to the airport and we boarded a train to Bern, where we would be meeting the college crew.
Always wish there was more time with family and friends. Thanks mom for coming to visit. It meant the world to me!
