Back here in the East Bay, we've been welcoming the first signs of Spring. Westin was so clearly excited when he discovered some flowers had blossomed in our backyard.
On this particular day, Westin had also picked out his outfit. Can you tell?
We had a really nice Easter as a family, spending the morning at church together, and then the afternoon at the cousins' house for dessert, a little baseball and riding scooters.
The biggest thing to hit the family in recent weeks has been the discovery that Westin needs glasses. He's had one eye that tends to wonder, and as we've learned from the recent eye exam, it's because that eye does not has as strong of vision as the other. Westin did a great job during the very long exam, and picked out some very stylish glasses.
The hope is that the glasses alone will help correct the wondering eye. If we don't see improvement with just the glasses, we'll try using a patch around the house for an hour a day. I think we'll make sure to incorporate a pirate theme for that one hour a day if that does have to happen.
This past week, Westin also started swim lessons at the local YMCA. He absolutely loves the water and can hardly wait for each class. I'm hoping that since he is so comfortable in the water, the technique of swimming and his confidence to swim on his own will develop quickly. Our pool opens at the end of May, and I'm hoping to have a real swimmer by then.
Last week was also full of fun activities around town. Our friends were on Spring Break, so we joined them at the Lawrence Hall of Science and at Tilden Park to feed the animals and ride the carousel and train.
The fun-filled week ended with Westin's baseball game (where he made his very first "real" out - grounded the ball at first and tagged the base before the other player got there), an afternoon at the movies, General Conference and...
... finally picking up his glasses!
Could he be any cuter? I love his serious face on the left.

He looks so much older with the glasses! Such a handsome boy. Can Westin come teach Nate to like the water as much as he does?! :) Looking forward to seeing you next month.
