Happy Birthday, Pops!

My dad celebrated his 57th birthday last week (such a young guy - doesn't look a day over 56, if you ask me). We joined him and Loni for dinner, cake and presents at their new place in Studio City. We dined at Sammy's Woodfire Grill and then indulged in a chocolate peanut butter layer cake (recipe link below) while my dad opened his gifts.

My dad is training for a triathlon in the fall, so all our gifts were geared toward his training. Just wish I was going to be here to watch him do it!

I love the bottom left picture - they're singing "Happy Birthday" together.

The cake: Chocolate Peanut Butter Layer Cake from Annie's Eats
Great cake texture and flavor (but just remember not to overbake or your cake is ruined, this is especially the case with chocolate cake. I usually pull my cake out when it's just the slightest bit under-done, and let it cook the final five minutes in the pan while it's cooling on the stove). The frosting is a whipped peanut butter frosting, so it's a little lighter than a regular PB frosting. All-in-all, it's a keeper!
